People With High Demand On The Brain

Good memory, clear thinking, sharp focus, consistent concentration are all we want to have, especially if you are preparing for HSC or having a job that involve intense demand on brain performance. Good brain functioning and performance are also essential for health and wellbeing and our enjoyment of life.
In our clinical practice, often come across people experiencing the brain not working as it used to be but could not work out what is the problem. Many have tried supplements like vitamin, sharp-focus pills etc. but improvement not seemed to be sustainable nor satisfactory.
TCM’s holistic approach is well positioned to help in many ways. An example, a boy is doing his best to prepare for HSC, somehow the parents observe there is some unsettling, occasional irritable, and communication has confirmed there is sometimes uneasiness in memorising and focusing and consistent concentration. Vitamins and sharp-focus pills do not help much. Consultation reveals there is a habit of drinking cold things, long term effects of cold things lead to poor appetite, wanting to have hot spicy food to appease and open appetite, accumulation effects of hot spicy food lead to building up of internal heat affecting the Liver and Heart and further disturbing the Shen which resulting in unsettling, irritable, and poor quality of sleep, not sleep well in turn negatively affect brain function and performance. Obviously, vitamins and sharp-focus pills has not addressed the issue, it is like vibration of the car cause the discomfort but applying lubricant to smooth the engine would not resolve the issue. After having herbs to warm the stomach, to settle the heat, to nourish the Heart and Shen, feedback shows feeling calm, sleep well, appetite normal, no problem with memory focus concentration.
In TCM tool box, there are wide range of tools available such as: comprehensive holistic approaches; differential diagnosis; herbs and/or acupuncture points that specifically target the specific organ or meridian. Not only treating the symptoms to provide relief but also treating the cause leading to longer term consistent improvement.
